What Is Machine Learning Engineering for Cybersecurity?

First, lets talk about what cybersecurity is; so, cybersecurity is a broad term of protecting internet-connected devices, such as protecting networks, devices, and data from cyber-criminals.

It is the practice of ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information. There are many types of careers that you could go into for cybersecurity, such as networking, cloud computing, data security, and many more, but the one I will be talking about is machine learning engineering. This website will be talking about what it is, the aspect such as the skills and knowledge needed, and the job description.

Note: The skills and knowledge needed and the job description will be on a separate page.

What is Machine Learning?

Machine learning (ML) is a mathematical field of AI that trains computers to mimic human thinking and processing. It teaches machines to learn on their own, helping to automate tasks, solve problems, and make accurate predictions. ML uses algorithms to analyze datasets, identify patterns, and adapt to evolving cyber threats.

How does this apply to cybersecurity?

ML plays a crucial role in threat detection and prevention, malware detection, and endpoint security. By analyzing network traffic and user behavior, it looks for signs of malware, phishing attempts, or insider threats, allowing us to detect threats before they cause damage. Its behavioral analysis also identifies unusual activities like unauthorized access or strange login patterns, strengthening overall security.
